A historic institution with the world’s most famous marching band — the Sonic Boom of the South — providing the soundtrack to the heart of Mississippi. It was here that the man they called “Sweetness” came of age on the football field. For four glorious years, Walter Payton left his mark at the Mississippi Veteran’s Memorial Stadium, scoring 62 touchdowns and rushing for 3,562 yards en route to becoming the “Black College Player of the Year.”
