About — Bill Russell x USF
Before the 11 rings... bill was a campus legend.
The University of San Francisco. A storied campus by the Bay in which greatness is formed, from Pulitzer and Nobel Peace Prize winners to major league commissioners to the greatest athletes of our time.
None bigger than the giant of the Hilltop himself, Bill Russell. Between 1953-1956, the towering kid from Oakland’s McClymonds High School transformed the Dons basketball program into a national powerhouse, winning back-to-back national titles in 1955 and 1956 and garnering every award under the sun. First player in college history to average over 20 points and 20 rebounds a game. First team All-American in 1955. The center for the All-Decade Team of the 1950s.
He was the most intimidating presence in the paint and he stood taller as his career went on. Eleven titles in the pros. Five MVP awards. First black head coach in the NBA. Olympic Gold Medal. Two-time Hall of Famer. The barriers he brought down along the way? The stuff of legend.
A Campus Legend.
We are thrilled to introduce our new Campus Legends: University of San Francisco x Bill Russell collection, celebrating #6!
